Boxer Dog

Country of Origin: Germany.

Size: Shoulder height: 53 - 63 cm (21 - 25 inches).

Coat: White should not cover more than a third of the dog. Coat is short and smooth.

Character: This dog is happy, friendly, and intelligent. It bonds closely with the family.

Temperament: Boxers get along especially well with children. They also get along well with other dogs and household pets. They are naturally inclined to protect your family from strangers.

Care: Coat can be kept in good condition by brushing occasionally.

Training: The Boxer must be trained not to jump up at people. Because it learns quickly, the Boxer is ideal for various sporting activities.

Activity: This dog needs plenty of exercise.

Border Collie Dog

Country of Origin: Scotland or England.

Size: Shoulder height: 53 - 55 cm (20.75 - 21.5 inches).

Coat: White should not be predominant, however all colors are acceptable.The most common color combination is black with white markings. The undercoat is thick, medium-length, and shiny.

Character: Intelligent, determined and brave, this dog forms a close bond with its family and is also eager to work.

Temperament: This dog gets along quite well with other pets and children, provided it has plenty of activity to keep it occupied.

Care: Weekly brushing of the coat should keep it in good condition.

Training: The Border Collie's tremendous intelligence and desire to please means training is rarely a challenge.

Activity: If not given work to do, the Border Collie will become badly behaved. It needs ample exercise, and its origin as a sheepdog and cattle-herder means that it is only happy when given specific tasks on a regular basis.

Bolognese Dog

Country of Origin: Italy.

Size: Shoulder height: 25 -30 cm (9.75 - 11-75 inches). Weight is around 5.5 - 8-75 lbs.

Coat: Consists of a big mass of straight long locks.

Character: The Bolognese is cheerful, intelligent and obedient.

Temperament: This breed enjoys the company of other dogs, pets, and children. As it enjoys being with its family, it should not be left alone often.

Care: The coat needs to be combed out daily because it tangles easily.

Training: Because this dog is eager to please, it is usually easy to train.

Activity: The Bolognese only needs an average amount of exercise, but it really enjoys long walks.

Bichon Frise Dog

Country of Origin: France.

Size: Shoulder height: 9.5 to 11.5 inches.

Coat: The double coat consists of a soft dense outercoat and coarse curly outer coat.It has a puffy appearance and springs back when patted.

Character: The Bichon Frise is sensitive, responsive, affectionate, and eager to cuddle or play.

Temperament: This dog is friendly toward strangers, other dogs and children. It can bark a lot.

Care: The coat needs to be brushed and combed every other day, as well as trimmed every two months.

Training: The intelligence of this breed makes training a fairly simple task.

Activity: The Bichon Frise is an active dog that needs daily exercise. Vigorous indoor games, romps in the yard, or short walks on the leash will keep it happy.

Belgian Shepherd Dog

Country of Origin: Belgium.

Size: Shoulder height: 58 - 62 cm (22.75 - 24.5 inches).

Coat: Long - haired coat with undercoat.

Character: The Belgian Shepherd is energetic, lively and eager to work.

Temperament: This breed gets along well with other pets especially if socialized early. It is shy around strangers, but get along well with children.

Care: Excessive brushing or combing can damage the undercoat. Light combing is only necessary during shedding.

Training: Training should be gentle, but determined. Hitting or yelling at the animal will only have an adverse effect.

Activity: The Belgian Shepherd needs a sufficient amount of outdoor exercise.

Belgian Malinois Dog

Country of Origin: Belgium.

Size: Shoulder height: 24 - 26 inches.

Coat: Is short and straight. Colors can be rich fawn to mahogany, with black-tipped hairs.

Character: This breed is intense, full of energy, serious and smart. It is a great watchdog and guard dog.

Temperament: The Belgian Malinois is wary around strangers and can be aggressive toward other dogs and animals. It is good with children, provided they are not unruly, and it has grown up around them. It should not be left alone with small children if not unsupervised.

Care: Needs to be brushed weekly, especially during shedding.

Training: This dog is sensitive to corrections and learns quickly. Training techniques must be top-notch and corrections must not be harsh.

Activity: A good yard and ample opportunities to use up some of its seemingly inexhaustible energy supply are required. Leisurely walks on leash will not be sufficient.

Basset Hound Dog

Country of Origin: England.

Size: Shoulder height: 33 - 38 cm (13 - 15 inches).

Coat: Hair is short, dense, and smooth.

Character: This breed is independent but sociable, calm, patient and playful.

Temperament: Bassets are excellent playmates for children and get along fine with dogs and other animals. Bassets do not like to be left alone.

Care: Apart from removing dead hairs when shedding, the Basset's great big ears must be kept clean.

Training: Basset hounds must be trained with consistency and patience.

Activity: Basset hounds do not require much exercise. Three short walks a day should be enough to keep them content, as long as they can also play in the yard.

Basenji Dog

Country of Origin: Africa

Size: Shoulder height: 40 - 43 cm (15.75 - 17 inches)

Coat: Is short-haired, fine and dense.

Character: The Basenji has an unusual yodel-like bark. Although very independent-minded, it bonds very closely with its family.

Temperament: This breed can be trusted with children, but does not make an ideal playmate. Basenjis must be socialized at a young age so that they know that other household pets are not prey.

Training: The independence of the Basenji can make it difficult to train. It is not known for its obedience.

Activity: This dog can live in an apartment, provided that it is taken for regular walks.

American Foxhound Dog

Coat: Is medium - length, close and hard. All possible colors are allowed.

Character: Though traditionally not a house pet, the American Foxhound does well in the home. This dog is tolerant, friendly, and gentle.

Temperament: This breed is at its best with canine or human companionship. It is very sociable, and should not be expected to live alone, although it is usually reserved around strangers..

Care: Occasional brushing is necessary to remove dead hair.

Training: Training should be conducted with a firm, no-nonsense approach.

Activity: Ever the hunter, the American Foxhound is always ready to hit the trail. Daily exercise, preferably a long walk or a jog, is necessary. Allow it to run off a leash, but only in a safe, enclosed area.

American Eskimo Dog

Country of Origin: United States.

Size: Shoulder height: Toy : 9 - 12 inches. Miniature: 12 - 15 inches. Standard: 15 - 19 inches.

Coat: Has two layers. The undercoat is short and dense, and the outer coat consists of long straight hair. It is thicker and longer around the chest and neck. Any color other than white or biscuit cream is unacceptable.

Character: The American Eskimo Dog is intelligent, inquisitive, and playful. It is fun-loving and generally outgoing to everyone.

Temperament: This breed is is very sociable with its family and good with children, other dogs, and household pets.

Care: Regular brushing is recommended to prevent matting. More attention will need to be paid during shedding, which occurs twice a year.

Training: Harsh training techniques are inappropriate for American Eskimo Dogs. It is eager to please and learns quickly.

Activity: This dog needs a good workout every day. Depending on its size, you may need to take it for a good jog or a long walk.

American Bulldog

Country of Origin: United States.

Size: Shoulder height: 20 to 27 inches.

Coat: The coat is short, stiff to the touch, and close. Any color combination is acceptable, except solid black, solid blue, or white with patches of black and tan.

Character: The American Bulldog is powerful, confident, and agile. It is naturally alert, inqusitive and fearless.

Temperament: This breed is affectionate toward children, if taught how to properly behave around them. It can be somewhat standoffish or aggressive around strangers. Because they were originally bred to bring down bulls and other livestock, the instinct to be aggressive with other animals is strong. Proper socialization is key.

Care: Not much grooming is required, however a good combing with a coarse comb is required when shedding.

Training: Training should begin as early in the American Bulldog's life as possible. It retains what it learns for a very long time.

Activity: This dog is very energetic and needs lots of exercise. Long walks, jogging, playing catch, or agility or skills trials keep it happy.

Anjing Affenpinscher

Country of Origin: Germany

Size: Shoulder height: 25-30 cm (9.75 - 11.75 inches).

Coat: Coarse, growing in swirls. Can be brown or grey, but is generally black.

Character: Affenpinschers are intelligent, friendly, loyal, alert, and lively.

Temperament: Affenpinschers get along fine with children, other Affenpinschers, and other types of household pets. They may be alarmed by unknown visitors.

Care: Hair should never be clipped, as it ruins the coat. Coat may need to be plucked periodically by a professional dog trimmer.

Training: Training must be consistent. This dog learns commands fairly quickly.

Activity: This breed needs quick, short walks at least three times a day. Regular playtime keeps Affenpinschers happy.
